Hall of Fame Welcomes Evan Ling

Evan "The Colonel" Ling joined the Club in 2001 and has been steadily accumulating games for nine years, fighting not only some of the more bizarre injuries (split webbing on his hand? twice??), but old age he is the oldest player still pulling on the Guernsey!

Evan enjoys playing netball, which he did in his youth back in Oz. Now that I think of it, he's the oldest netball player, too! Not one to let chronology get in his way, Evan achieved Kangaroo immortality by hitting the Century Mark in 2009 with 100 games played, only the fourth Rooboy ever to do so. It does not necessarily mean that he will be promoted from Colonel, however.

Evan has been instrumental off the field as well, and was recognized for his dedication with the 2004 Best Clubman Award. He is always there to help with the pregame setup and postgame breakdown. Evan has been moonlighting for the past six years or so under the nom de plume, Roving Roo Reporter, writing witty and insightful match reports to help those of you who could not attend our games get your fix of Roo footy on those Monday mornings after. Hopefully, he will continue to pen those witty match reports long into the future.

Evan is our key promotions person for those 5K runs that the Roos participate in (Nashville Zoo 5K Run, Susan Komen Race for the Cure); go ahead and ask him which Kangaroo currently holds the record for the fastest time at the Nashville Zoo run (yup, it's him!). Evan and his wife, Bridget Galvin, are now working to get the Kangaroos involved with the Mayor's First Day Festival, a key part of our plans to promote playing footy in local schools.

For the last four years Evan has served on the board of directors as the Publicity Director. He has also assisted with sponsorships, bringing in Silver Sponsors First Tennessee and First Tennessee Foundation. He is now working to bring in new media sponsors.

For his undying love of the Kangaroos, his dedication to making the club better for everyone, and especially for his Century Mark, it is our privilege to pay tribute to a true Rooboy.

Congratulations, Evan, on your induction into the Hall of Fame.
