As we approach our thirteenth season of footy it is time to start showing off our players! We begin 2009 with long-time stalwart, Bo Link. Bo started playing back in 2002 and quickly became a star as he took his natural talents and affinity for the game quickly to the top. He coached the team for two years while playing, then decided to pursue a master's degree that took him to Knoxville for two years. Last year he made his return a successful one, kicking goals in his first match back, which was made all the more amazing considering the shoulder injury that he suffered just prior to going back to school.

Bo is married to Amy, who has been the consumate Roo-wife, being there for home games and going on many of the road trips. Amy has served on the board of the Kangaroos as well. And just to prove that it is a truly family affair, Amy's father Mike Todd was elected to the board of directors last fall and currently serves as Treasurer. The Golf tournament was renamed in honor of her mother Allyson Todd whose favorite charities are supported by the proceeds of that fundraiser. And as if that is not enough Roos in one family, Amy is expecing - this month! Congratulations to Bo and Amy from the entire Roo family.

Thus, it seemed appropriate that we track down Bo and find out what really makes him tick. Here is what we found:

Evan Ling (EL): What is your Jersey number:
Bo Link (BL): 5

(EL): Best footy trip ever:
(BL): Kansas City, 2002. We were both undefeated in the MAAFL coming into the game, and we went out and laid everything on the line to take the win on a day when the temperature was over 100.

(EL): Worst footy trip ever:
(BL): Lehigh Valley, 2002. We beat them very badly, but the overall trip was a nightmare.

(EL): Favorite footy memory:
(BL): Kicking 4 goals in about 4 minutes against Kansas City in 2003 to lock up the win in the fourth quarter.

(EL): How you first heard about Nashville Kangaroos:
(BL): My sister lived next door to Ian "Bulldog" Fraser and Dee "Weeman" Vsetecka back in 2002. One night she had some people over to her house, and both Ian and Dee asked me if I wanted to come play Aussie rules. I had seen it on TV before, so I figured I'd give it a shot. That was 7 years ago, and I've been hooked ever since.

(EL): Your first impression/experience of Aussie rules football:
(BL): Once I started to get the hang of all the skills, I wished I had been able to play this sport my whole life. It's definitely my favorite sport overall.

(EL): What do you know about netball?:
(BL): Not much. It's sort of like basketball, except there's no dribbling.

(EL): Other sports experience:
(BL): I've played a little bit of everything at one point in my life; American football, basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, and I even ran track some.

(EL): Favorite field position:
(BL): Center. I like to be able to be in on all the action that flows through the middle of the field. I probably won't play it ever again because I don't want to re-injure my shoulder.

(EL): Someone in sports you strive to be like and how/why:
(BL): Brett Favre. He's a ferocious competitor who doesn't know the meaning of the word quit.

(EL): Current occupation:
(BL): Technical Services Librarian at the Eskind Biomedical Librarian at Vanderbilt.

(EL): Your personal goal for 2009:
(BL): The MAAFL Championship!

(EL):Thanks, Bo, and best of luck for 2009.
