Kangaroos Celebrate Australia Day in Style
On Saturday, 24 January, the Nashville Kangaroos braved the 37-degree Fahrenheit weather to celebrate Australia Day at Club Sponsor Sportsman's Grille-Hillsboro Village. Proving that the Roogirls are just a hardy as the Rooboys were club stalwarts, Michelle Lee, Holly Baker, Greta Fowinkle, and Amy Link (pictured). And rumor has it that the netball team may have outlasted the footy players that evening (judging by the number of ice packs in use prior to Sunday's netball match!)
For the first time, the event was broadcast on the Justin.tv webchannel (http://www.justin.tv/nashvillekangaroos), which has now been broadcasting for nine months. The program was done live by the 2008 Best Clubman recipient Alex Benjamin and included interviews with Evan "Colonel" Ling who posted the Roo-best time that morning in the Nashville Zoo's 5K Run, Jeff Persson, Coach Marty Thompson and Jake Strickland while talking via Facebook with Chris "Lawn" Moerman from his home in Chattanooga and Alex's girlfriend, Brenda, talking from her home in Mount Pleasant via Yahoo! Messenger.
The celebration interviews began with The Colonel discussing the 2009 season schedule, which had been revised earlier that day and the new look of the website, which got rave reviews from not only Evan, but from Jeff, Jake and Coach Marty. Next up was Coach Marty talking about the season kickoff event, the upcoming Recruitment Day on 7 Marchand then reviewing the key matchups, especially those that will be on the road.
