Cultural Events Calendar

In the early days of the Nashville Kangaroos, there was a social club with the responsibility for planning events that (dramatic pause) did not include a football game (yes, it's true!)

Well, we are bringing back that aspect of the club and formalizing it under the aegis of the Cultural Committee. In recent years we have been part of the Nashville Zoo's 5K Run, our QuatRoo de Mayo and Holiday Party in December at Silver Sponsor La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant, our Silent Auction and Awards Banquet (OK, that last bit is at least football-related), and Picnic at the Lake.

The Cultural Committee got together earlier this year to lay the foundations for formally planning 2010. In the meantime, they are helping to plan out a few events for the remainder of 2009.

Picnic at the Lake
On July 18th the football and netball teams will hit Priest Lake for a picnic day. Details on this event are still being worked out, led by Rooboys Mischa Nemeth and Grant White who graciously piloted us around the lake last year!

Mayor's First Day Festival
This year, led by Bridget Galvin and Evan Ling, the Roos are participating in the Mayor's First Day Festival to launch the school year. We will staff a booth and show the kids that exercise and sports are fun (guess which sports we will emphasize?) and give away some school supplies. The event is Sunday August 9th from 2-5 pm at the Sommet Center. To participate, contact Evan Ling from our 'contact us' page. This will be a ton of fun.

Grand Final Party
Boy-oh-Boy are we excited about this September! The Grand Final Party!! I know, it happens every September and we are always excited. You caught me! It will be late Friday night September 25th, with the event starting at 11 pm and going to the wee hours of the morning.

This year, thanks to former Rooboy Quinn O'Sullivan, our Event Sponsor is Dan McGuinness Irish Pub - Cool Springs. We had an absolute blast last year at his place with over 100 members and fans packing the place from all over Tennessee, and a few lost Aussies on walkabout in Tennessee who found us in time to share in the fun. You won't want to miss this one!

Silent Auction and Awards Banquet
The Silent Auction and Awards Banquet will be in late October, and probably held in conjunction with our Annual General Meeting. However we have not worked out our location for this mega event yet. Last year, the Awards included inducting three new members of the Hall of Fame in addtion to the Football team awards, followed by our most successful silent auction ever. The event coordinators Molly Nemeth and Meredith Quigley are working already to get this event planned. If you have something to donate, you may email Meredith from our 'contact us' page; meanwhile, keep your eyes on the website for the announcement of the location.

Holiday Party
And last but not least, our Holiday Party, we will again hosted by Gus Torres, owner of our Silver Sponsor, La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant on Bell Road. This is our third year at La Hacienda and this year's event will be Friday December 11th. Join us for some spectacular Mexican food (you won't be disappointed) celebrate the closing of another fantastic year for the Kangaroos.
