Nashville Kangaroos Open MAAFL Season In Chicago!
Story posted May 1, 2005

The Nashville Kangaroos open their 2005 MAAFL season in Chicago this weekend. The Kangaroos take on the Chicago Swans who will be a very formidable opponent. The Swans, now operating under the banner of the "Chicago Australian Football Association" are going to provide some very tough competition. The key to the development of the Chicago Australian Football Association is the merging of the Chicago Swans and the Chicago Sharks and the commencement of a 4 club metro league in Chicago. The Nashville Kangaroos, although not blessed with the demographics of 3 million populated city have also developed a Metro League that includes universities and amateur players. The Kangaroos boast a young American team - with only 2 Australians on the current player roaster. Coach Bo Link and Captain Dee Vsetecka have done a good job of using their upbringing in the Nashville Kangaroos Club to develop some great local players while passing on the great traditions that exist within Australian Football. This game will be a real test of the Kangaroos resolve and youth against a more aging Chicago team.

The game is set to kick off at 2:30 p.m. at Rogers Park School Field - 7345 N. Washington Avenue, Chicago, IL 60645. The Kangaroos hold a 6-2 lifetime record over the Swans - which includes 2 one point victories in national championships - a goal on the siren in 1998 in Cincinnati by Jason Strickland and a point by Coach Bo Link in the 2004 nationals in Atlanta. In 2004 these teams were very evenly matched so it will be team that gets in front early that will most likely control the game and outcome. For all the trip details - click here.

The Kangaroos will be opening their season in Nashville on May 21, 2005 when they host Milwaukee Bombers in a round two MAAFL competition. The Kangaroos 2005 Schedule has also been released. It is one of the most exciting schedules the Roos have ever had. Here are the matches, so mark the dates and plan to come out to beautiful Elmington Park this season for some great games. This will be the official re-opening of Elmington Park since the major grounds renovations.
