The Nashville Kangaroos sent a team of four volunteers to the Holy Trinity Montessori school today and spent time with the kids who are studying Australia this year as part of their geographic education.
Luke Chadwick and Cathy Bjorkquist (both Australian) discussed growing up in Australia and moving to the USA as well as Australian geography and Australian climate. They then took the kids through a fun back and forth on Australian animals of all kinds. Luke, Andrew O'Dwyer, and Jeff Persson talked about Australian Rules Football and Cathy provided an overview of Netball. Along the way the kids learned some Australian lingo (G'Day Mate!) They finished with a demo of Aussie Rules in the courtyard (right behind the window in the picture!) Now the Roos have a HUGE following of kids who will be cheering on the boys as they kick goal after goal against the Chicago Swans this Saturday!
The 100+ students were awesome! They listened as we presented; they asked questions on every topic and answered questions posed to them. They were excited to learn about Aussie sports and they cannot wait to get to the Kids Clinic being hosted by the Kangaroos: Saturday, September 16, 1 pm, Elmington Park, where they will learn the skills of footy and get to kick some goals! Then at 2 pm they get to watch the Kangaroos Swans game and, if all goes well, will be going home celebrating a Kangaroos victory!
A huge "Good on ya" to the faculty and staff at Holy Trinity Montessori for inviting the Kangaroos to do this program.
