It’s April and you know what that means!  Yes, Kangaroo Season is officially under way!!

This Saturday is our kickoff event:

April 6th from Noon to 2 pm at ELMINGTON PARK

We will be bringing out the new recruits to our hallowed home ground and teaching them how to handball, kick, and mark.  We will be running drills and teaching the rules of the game.  We will have some friendly competitions with Fat Bottom gift cards for the winners.  And then during the 1 pm hour we will be running our famous Blue-White scrimmage match, an exhibition of the great game of Australian Rule Football.

Following the conclusion of the event and after cleaning up the gear, we will head to our new watering hole, Fat Bottom Brewing, at 800 44th Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37209.  Even if you can’t get to Elmington, come by and share some tucker and a stubby with us.  We plan to be there until at least 4 pm, later if you are having too much fun.

In addition, the start of the season also means marking your calendar.  This year in addition to our USAFL games, we have resurrected our METRO LEAGUE!

The Metro League games are for everyone, Newbie, Alumnae, and current players.  We will have two our two traditional teams: the Wallabies and the Redbacks both with new jumpers thanks to HomeLight, our new Platinum Sponsor.  The Metro season will have five (5) dates, all on Friday evenings at Morgan Park.  This is a direct result of a number of alumni asking for a local competition that doesn’t require any travel.

The Metro League is also a place to learn to play footy in a competitive yet friendly environment.  What we mean is that our alumni have specifically said they want to help our newer Kangaroos learn the game by sharing their knowledge and experience in the game environment.  While these games will be competitive (no one goes out on the pitch to lose), they are also training opportunities.  The games will be coached, played, and umpired for the specific purposes of having fun, learning the game, teaching the game, and then enjoying the post-game together.
